Book review policy
I occasionally post book reviews on my blog to help promote the work of other writers.
I do this because I am a writer myself, which means I understand the immense value of receiving a book review and the exposure this can provide. There is no 'I' in author and all writers should help each other as much as they can.
However, I am not a full-time book blogger, so I have to be selective with the books that I agree to review. As such, I have prepared a list of ground rules.
1. I will only review a book if I am provided with a free copy in the form of an epub file or paperback.
2. I am generally a positive person but I cannot guarantee that every sentence in my review will be glowing.
3. I will not edit or delete my review because you object to my criticism.
4. I post reviews on my blog, Goodreads, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com as standard, unless you object to any of the latter three.
5. I will promote my reviews via a series of tweets from my author account @simon_fairbanks.
6. I only review fiction. Sorry biographers!
7. I am more likely to review your book if you are either a self-published author, or based in the Midlands, or someone I have met.
9. I will almost definitely review your book if you agree to a Review Swap, which means you review one of my books in return.
10. I am less likely to review your book if you badger me repeatedly for a review.
11. I may stop reading and abandon the review entirely if your book is full of spelling errors, grammatical errors, or poor formatting.
12. If you would like a review, then please contact me via email at [email protected] or message me on Twitter at @simon_fairbanks.
13. Please don't be offended if you do not receive a reply.
14. There are exceptions to every rule!
