I wrote 50,000 words as part of JuNoWriMo and hit the required target with just one hour to spare. (I used that hour to watch Fargo.) This is the most prolific I have been since November and hopefully a sign that I am back in writing mode.
This was my third successful WriMo. The first was NaNoWriMo 2013, which resulted in the creation of The Sheriff. The second was JuNoWriMo 2015, which helped me finished the second half of The Curse of Besti Bori.
This time, I had planned to write my third novel, but I didn't have enough of the story plotted in advance. With constant pressure to write 1,667 words a day, there was no time to stop and plan.
Instead, I wrote four not-so-short stories and added to my sci-fi novella. This means I finally have enough content for my new short story collection, the untitled follow-up to Breadcrumbs.
What else?
- I spoke about self-publishing at the University of Birmingham Community Festival.
- I attended the Godblind book launch at Waterstones. Godblind is the brilliant grimdark fantasy novel by author Anna Stephens, a fellow Birmingham Writers' Group member. Anna did an excellent job with the reading and Q&A panel. It then turned into a fun little social. We drank wine. So much wine.
- I finished 3rd in the Birmingham Writers' Group Summer Competition.
- I didn't read anything, but I read twice as much last month so don't judge me!
